Help raise money for the World Cetacean Alliance by using your craft

Thanks to all the Brighton Etsy designer makers who took part in the World Cetacean Alliance’s (WCA) Untangled project earlier this year. We managed to raise significant awareness of the atrocious problem of discarded fishing gear on our marine wildlife, and raise a few quid for the project too!

As many more of you were keen to get involved in further WCA projects, we wanted to invite you to help the charity on their Second Wave of the Untangled Project.

We would like to invite you to create an item(s) along the theme of whales/ dolphins/ porpoises/ fishing nets/ entanglement, etc. The items will be available for sale through your own Etsy shop, with a *percentage of profits donated to the WCA’s Net Effect Project. (*percentage to be at your discretion.) We suggest that the items be available for sale for a limited time only – perhaps six months/until end December. The WCA, Whalefest (and March of the Mermaids) will help promote the items through our social media channels and the WCA website.

We would also like to launch the partnership to the public at the time of this year’s March of the Mermaids (Saturday 23rd July), which is being jointly co-ordinated by the WCA, with the theme of ghost netting. The march will start on Hove Lawns, where there will be family friendly activities, music, food, and the option of a stall for the sale of these fabulous Etsy creations.

So how do you get involved? Please comment over in the forum on the thread tiled the same at this post that you would like to be part of the project and will have piece ready to display at March of the Mermaids on the 23rd July.

If you leave your email address in the comment on the forum too, we will be able to send you guidelines and a blurb to go in your Etsy listing to say you are part of the project.

We will be promoting the project across all of the Brighton Etsy social media so it’s a great way to gain exposure whilst donating to a brilliant cause.

Any questions please let us know over on the forum.

Thank You!

Karli (team captain) and Nikki (WCA)
