Hello! I’m Kirstin and I came to Brighton 11 years ago having been lured by the sea and the North laines.
I’m have a Three dimensional design degree specialising in metalwork but I haven’t dabbled in metal work for a long long time! When I moved to Brighton I was given a sewing machine so I started making handbags and plush toys, In 2007 I left my office job and sold my toys and bags down at the West pier market for a year – I got a great tan and a taste for selling!
October 2009 I set up a bi-monthly Alternative Craft Fair called Handmade Brighton this was held at Komedia were I worked part-time. I loved running these fairs but it was a lot of work and stress for just one person. Luckily I was contacted by the lovely Lynne davis (owner of Sweet boutique shops) with an interesting idea!
So hence we gave birth to the Handmade Co-op, a non-profit shop/gallery in St. James Street. We filled the shop with artists I had met running the fairs and some new ones we discovered along the way.
After two fabulous years of fun we decided to call it a day, the shop’s closure has allowed me to refocus on my creativity.
Etsy have been very supportive of my work and I’d love to become active again in organising things for the creative folk of Brighton, so I thought becoming a team leader of the Brighton Etsy team was the perfect opportunity!
